Charbel!! A Great Sounding California Band

June 3rd, 2007 by Rock

Charbel

Charbel is a Southern California band with a great sound that those of us at BandAttack really enjoyed. If you are looking for a chance to see this exciting new band, watch for upcoming dates in late June. Check them out at their myspace page to hear two great tunes.

Here is a bio that they provided to BandAttack.com.

Alt/Rock band Charbel is a relatively new formation of veteran musicians who have long sought the perfect combination of players and music that would ensure their success. Having found one another, they are creating a surprising reaction within the musical community.

Lead guitarist/vocalist Paulo Charbel is from Brazil. He came to the US seven years ago, with the blessing of his family, to pursue his dream of finding the right avenue for his unique style of lyric and melody. Writing with English as his second language and with strong Latin music roots such as Bossa Nova, Charbel is introducing a truly new and unique sound into the rock arena. In a day and age when everything is starting to sound somewhat the same, Charbel is fresh and interesting. Listener reaction is universally positive.

Drummer/background vocalist Ray Solowij hails from New Jersey, also coming to California to find a good fit for his eclectic style. Solowij combines rock, punk, classical, gypsy and countless other genres together to create an inimitable combination that is perfect for Charbel. He is rock solid, and a master of incorporating innovative ideas into each song.

Bassist Evan Wood is a native Californian, playing professionally since age 13. With his former rock band, Wood has played most of the major Hollywood venues – Whiskey, Roxy, Knitting Factory – and is a veteran performer. Playing five-string bass, he is able to create the full and driving sound so necessary to a power trio. He provides a solid backdrop, which is the ideal complement to rhythm and lead alike in Charbel.

When the members of Charbel posed for their photo, they made it clear that nobody was going to look severe and removed. To the contrary, the personality of the band is as unique as its sound. This is evidenced in their group and individual shots. Their band “style?” No style. That is, each member is true to himself and his individuality.

When it’s time to rehearse, Charbel is dead serious and absolutely professional. When they perform, they’re electric and completely at home on stage. In their off hours, they share a zany sense of humor and camaraderie that ensures this band will be around for a long, long time.

Watch for them.
