Stand Releases Fourth Album “Travel Light”

August 5th, 2007 by Rock

New York-based group Stand’s fourth album “Travel Light” takes the band’s music to new levels and will surely garner them high praise from fans and critics alike. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, this quartet blends lush melodic arrangements around the vocals of the band’s two distinct voices, offering audiences a sound that combines thoughtful lyrics with one-of-a-kind melodies. “Stand’s brooding but energetic and melodic rock has drawn comparisons to Coldplay, Pink Floyd, and Gang of Four,” says Kay O’Day from Buffalo’s Art Voice. “‘Travel Light’ is quite different from anything they’ve done in the past, concentrating on the strengths surrounding the band’s two lead vocalists.”

This strength comes from time spent on the road working on their sound. Awed at the prospect of limitless venues in the United States, Stand made the move from Dublin to New York, and set out touring the northeast and west coast in search places to share their tunes. Travelling from New York to California, they are the rarest of groups: one that sounds better live than in a recording studio. “The band has tapped into a wellspring of rock that few tap into these days, with all the proper elements to literally get crowds jumping,” says Gabrielle Bouliane from Buffalo’s Rising.com. “Alan Doyle’s vocals and guitar can bring tears to the eyes on the minor chords, and when the full band kicks in, it makes you wish you were driving a fast classic car down a winding road in the fall.”

Travel Light

Produced by keyboardist David Walsh, “Travel Light” takes Stand’s music to new levels, leaving behind the guitar-driven influences of their earlier records to focus on a more refined sound. The contrasting vocals of Alan Doyle and Neil Eurelle work extremely well together, with “Little Sweet Lucifer” and “Sleeping on Our Feet” two tracks that show off the true talent that lies at the heart of Stand’s success.

Critics seem to agree. “They generate feverish excitement, both on the concert stage and in the recording studio,” says James Bartlett of the Irish Examiner. “Imagine the writing of Neil Finn mixed with the wide-open spaces of Pink Floyd.” While the Buffalo News’ Jeff Miers says: “This is a gimmickless band; strong, passionate and deeply melodic rock with shades of the drama of the Smiths and the tunefulness of Coldplay.”

Fans won’t have long to see for themselves. Stand will kick off their tour at Joe’s Pub in New York City on September 14 & 15th, then will take to the road to visit Connecticut, Buffalo, then head west to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver. Such love of touring sets the band apart from other groups, and has helped them create a sound that is truly unmatched.

With “Travel Light,” Stand has entered a new stage in their music career. After many years on the road, these New York-based Dubliners know how to give an audience exactly what it wants. This confidence oozes out of their latest album, allowing the band to simply play the best music you’ve heard in a long time.
